Ficce by Yoshiyuki Konishi 1980s Three Dimensional Weave “Cow” Intarsia Knit Sweater
Through the ‘80s and early-mid ‘90s, Yoshiyuki Konishi’s “Ficce” and namesake label occupied a unique niche within Japanese fashion. Unlike his anti fashion peers such as Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo his maximalalist style knits could use sixty or more different colours. Every ball of yarn and other fabrics were all dyed in house as opposed to being bought in pre coloured. He integrated fabrics such as rope, vinyl tubing, mohair and more into his work, giving a three dimensional element to many of his pieces.
This particular sweater is from the late 80s where he produced his hand knit series, many of these were one of one sweaters including this one. It’s constructed from a blend of wool, mohair and nylon. The Cow is constructed from a Chenille style knit for the black parts and various other techniques are used throughout. The Tail hair is 3D whereas the main bulk of the cow is Intarsia knit into the jumper. This is an exceptionally rare sweater.
